Golden Book Achievers

Congratulations to all the children who were in the Golden Book or received a certificate in this morning’s assembly.
Our nursery child was chosen for being a good friend and an enthusiastic learner; our reception child was chosen for his improved writing, remembering finger spaces and sounding out words; our class 3 child was chosen for trying really hard to improve presentation and for having a go at trampolining and our class 4 child was chosen for her concentration during art day, enabling her to do her best, and her willingness to help with clearing up at lunchtime and in the afternoon. The certificate was awarded for achieving one hundred stickers.

Art Day

To start the day, the children worked collaboratively to create a collage of the Union Flag using cuttings from magazines. Key stage 2 continued the British Values theme by creating clay tile reliefs depicting scenes representing the values and class 1 created pattern effects by stamping objects into their clay tiles. Once dried, all of these will be displayed in the hall. After lunch, the whole school began work on creating a 3D model of St Peter’s Hill consolidating their learning of the local area and developing their understanding of the local community.

Jump Revolution Festival

This afternoon, some pupils were given the opportunity to attend the first ever Jump Revolution Festival organised by Inspire+.
They spent 3 hours jumping with their team mates, participating in dodge-ball against other schools, basketball shooting, team work on the balance beam, a personal agility game and children in class 4 were offered the opportunity to practise their jumping from height! Tianna was chosen to complete the final activity – the gladiator challenge – an obstacle race against other schools. She did us proud! It’s smiles all round and hopefully an early night!

Bug Hunt

Some of the children went on a bug hunt around the school field this afternoon. We found lots of bugs, which we tried to identify and sketch before returning them to where we found them. One child found a rotting conker containing numerous bugs!

Golden Book Achievers

Congratulations to all the children in today’s Golden Book and to those who received certificates.

Outdoor Learning Day

Today, at Dudley House School, we moved the classrooms outside. Here are some photos of some of the activities we took part in.

Belton House Visit

Today, class 4 spent the day at Belton House. They were able to dress up and find out what life was like for the Brownlow family during Victorian times. Afterwards, we went downstairs where they dressed up as maids and servant boys (unfortunately no photos were allowed downstairs) and learnt what life was like for the servants and how different it was to life upstairs. After lunch, the children completed an i-spy leaflet, looking at the nature around Belton, before ending the day in the playground. They were commended for their excellent behaviour by the volunteers at Belton, resulting in a very proud teacher!

100 miles reached

Today, we have passed the 100 mile mark on our way to running 401 miles. The children are continually improving and some are now running two miles a day!

Maths Day

Class 1 had a busy maths day. We discussed why we need numbers and set about solving some mathematical problems.

Class 3 practised their measuring skills today, finding out how far their paper aeroplanes travelled across the hall. They used metre rules and a trundle wheel. Faith’s aerodynamic design travelled the furthest at 7m 70cm.

As part of our Maths Day activities, we learnt about time zones across the world. Everyone chose a country and at the end of school we set our clocks to the exact time of their chosen destination.

Class 4 spent the day problem solving. The first activity was using their knowledge of number facts to place numbers in the correct place on a grid. The second activity was using their knowledge of graphs to answer questions and find out the labels missing from the side and base of the graph. We discussed logic problems and completed one has a whole class before the children completed one independently. The afternoon was spent solving clues to find who had committed a crime. The clues involved measuring angles, using a calendar, working out percentages, answering questions on Braille numbers and calculating Roman numerals. The day ended with some times tables races with class 3.

Lighthouse Keepers Lunch

The children in the Nursery and Reception class have been reading and learning about ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch story’. We worked hard to make our own sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed eating them.
