Golden Book Achievers

Well done to the children who were In the Golden Book today and also to those who recieved a Bronze certificate for collecting 20 stickers.

Harvest Festival

This morning in their Harvest Festival, the children retold the story of a lazy farmer who learnt that he had to work in partnership with God to successfully grow crops to feed the villagers.
Afterwards the older children packed up the harvest donations and took 102.8kg of food and toiletries to Grantham Foodbank – enough to feed over 50 families. They also visited and gave flowering plants to people in the community, who really enjoyed their visit.

Virtual beekeepers

Today we were all very lucky to have a local beekeeper come in to talk to us.  We learnt a lot of interesting facts – including how lazy boy (drone) bees are! We investigated the virtual hive and thankfully no one was stung in the process.  Check us out in our protective gear.

Honey Baking

You won’t BEE – lieve what we baked!

Class 3 and 4 used honey in two recipes today. They realise how valuable honey is as a versatile food source.

Tag Rugby

Year 3 pupils enjoyed developing their rugby skills at the Tag Rugby Festival this afternoon. They took part in a variety of activities such as stuck in the mud rugby, tag rugby, rugby rounders. Their team work and rugby skills visibly improved through the afternoon.

Apparatus Exploration

The Reception and Year 1 children at Dudley House School have practised their gymnastic skills on the differing apparatus today. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, particularly liking our new bouncer.

Poetry Day

Class One celebrated ‘Poetry Day’ by learning about rockets and space. They listened to space poems, played instruments to space themed music and made rockets and astronauts.

Autumn Discoveries

Today the weather has been kind and the children in Class 1 and 2 finally had chance to go for a walk and look for signs of Autumn. They all had opportunity to collect different shaped leaves. The children in the nursery collected a large stick which they have enjoyed painting and the children in Reception and Year 1 learnt the names of some our native trees and bushes.

Evacuee poetry written in class – we hope you like them.

The Rainy Day

I am wearing my gas mask ready to be evacuated.

My Mum packed my bag, put in my nighty

Playing with my yo-yo on the train

Looking at the trees goes past in the rain.

Going Away

Children crying, mothers weeping

Leaving London and what I know.

Might go to Wales…

Might go to the coast…

Where will I go?

Where will I go?

Boom!

Here I am, soggy and wet

World War 2 is making me upset.

Crying and sobbing, wailing and crawling

All the bombs are strongly falling.

All the houses collapse in a row,

While I was knitting a dolly bow.

I love knitting while I’m spitting pebbles

That fly in my mouth.

This is absurd, the bombs

And the tragedy I heard.

And poor little bird

Got killed by a bomb.

He was my only friend and called him Flom.

Slump, bump off with the stump.

Now I am lost in my air raid shelter

Compared to my school’s.

My School’s air raid shelter was destroyed

By Hilter’s fools.

No more fools who were using tools so

We got out,

Now the city was dark, no flower was

About to sprout.

As World War 2 ended, even my air raid

Shelter is bent.

But at least I am safe…safe.

Evacuation

Evacuees travel by train.

Visitors of farms and villages

Ask questions – ‘When can I go home?’

Crying people in the war.

Utter nonsense this fighting.

Air rain shelters are tightly packed.

Tools and tractors and talk of digging.

In the country things are quiet.

Optional jobs are hard for women.

Not enough food for people.
