Reading Zone Prize Winners

We were delighted to learn this morning that the picture book that Joshua, Uriah and Florence had written and illustrated for the Reading Zone Picture Book competition, had been awarded the Young Creators runners up prize!! A fantastic achievement. The book they wrote was entitled ‘Joseph and the Disappearing Vegetables’. The lead judge Sarah McIntyre, who is an author and illustrator, made this comment about their book: “This story by Joshua, Uriah and Florence is genius, right from the title and concept to the way the words roll along. I love the double mention of the ‘delicious, juicy vegetables’, it’s funny and the repetition makes it so obvious that something bad is going to happen. And this is rubbed in further with the mention of ‘yummy, scrummy vegetables. I like the spooky picture of the robber in the dark rocky cave, and I laughed out loud when everything was patched up quickly and they had vegetable soup. Nice pattern work around the back-cover blurb, too!”

Class 4 Bake for Bastille Day

Class 4 have started thinking about the feast they will be hosting for the whole school to celebrate Bastille Day as part of their learning about French culture. Today they made bread that they will freeze to keep fresh for the party. They all had a sneaky taste after lunch just to check the quality was good. Results…. It tasted fantastic!

Sports Day Practise

Before it got too hot, the children were out enjoying themselves whilst practising for sport’s day.

Inter Schools Sports

Some of the children in Class 4 have been playing tennis this afternoon in an inter schools sports competition. They all played very well and enjoyed the experience of meeting children from other schools. As to be expected from Dudley House School children, their behaviour was amazing. Well done all of you.

Class 3 Explore Music

This afternoon we listened, moved and responded to different genres of music, expressing how they made us feel, whether we liked the style of music and we also identified instruments used to create the music. We then explored and experimented with sounds we could make with percussion instruments from different countries and different ways they could be played. We carefully chose instruments and worked together to create our own soundscapes.

Class 4 Arts Week

During Arts Week class 4 have made collaborative cardboard sculptures inspired by Barbara Hepworth. They have also used paper to sculpt into their own creations. They had a try at photography too, finding unusual ways to photographs items in class and playing with distance to create some trick photographs.

Jubilee Celebrations

Dudley House School children have celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style today. All the children made hats to wear, that were very regal! The children in Class 1 and 2 made some very tasty gingerbread men to share. The children in Class 4 have worked particularly hard making and decorating fairy cakes, decorating two wonderful jubilee cakes as well as making the sandwiches. The children thoroughly enjoyed their feast. The party continued into the afternoon with games and ice creams.

Assembly with Lightspace

Mrs Fytche from Lightspace visited Dudley House School today, she told the children all about Psalm 23 (The Lord’s my Shepherd) which is one of the Queen’s favourites. One of the children said that the psalm was like our lives and he believed God supported him in good times and bad times just like the good shepherd did. Mrs Fytche told us that the Queen believes that God is with her even when she has difficulties and struggles. The assembly was a lovely time of quiet reflection in the midst of what was a very busy party day. Thank you Mrs Fytche for visiting our school.

Jubilee Party Gingerbread Men

Class 1 and 2 have really enjoyed making and decorating gingerbread men for the Platinum Jubilee party.

Class 1 Decorate Plant Pots

EYFS loved decorating plant pots with the royal colours red, white and blue. As part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Project – encourage planting. These will be used to take home the beans they have been growing at a later point.
