Kandinsky Inspired Art

Today, the children in Class 1 learnt about the artist Kandinsky and his love of colours and shapes. They started by mixing different colours and guessing what new colour they would make.
Next, they made a circle with sugar coated sweets, on a white plate and Mrs Glover poured on some warm water. They watched to see what would happen next. The colours all made beautiful patterns but did not mix together.
Finally, they looked at one of Kandinsky’s famous paintings that uses lots of colours and lots of circles. They all had a go at making one just like it.

Our Snails – inspired by Matisse

The children in Class 2 have had a fun Art day. They have painted old bears and learnt about how the artist Matisse created the picture called The Snail. They have each created their own snail in the style of Matisse and practised drawing and creating spirals.

The Great Wave

Class 4 studied the woodblock by Japanese artist Hokusai in the late 19th century. His artwork is called ‘The Great Wave’. Using pencil initially, then watercolour paints, the class painted their own version of this masterpiece. After, they used technology and replicated the image using computer software. They found out that Hokusai printed a whole series featuring waves and Mount Fuji and that his best artworks were created when he was 70. They also discovered that as each woodblock print was replicated thousands of times people could buy a copy for the price of two pots of noodles!

They also used Stylofoam to create prints of The Great Wave.

Throwing Skills

Today Class 4 had a great socially distanced P.E. lesson practising their throwing skills.

O’Keeffe Style Flowers

Class 4 studied Georgia O’Keeffe who painted enlarged flowers so their beauty could be appreciated. I think they painted some fabulous pictures!

Famous Artists

Home learning is running alongside class learning this week. One of the class 4 pupils looked at a painting by Thomas Gainsborough and copied a careful section. The class thought her artwork was amazing!

Brain Builder – Animal Habitats

Over the Easter holidays children were set a Brain Builder task to create an animal habitat. N. and M. used collage materials to make a desert and a jungle. O. raided his garden to make a bug house. We are looking forward to seeing what other habitats have been created.
