Multiplication

Today year 5 and 6 played a card game to reinforce multiplication strategies.

Act of Kindness

Our School Council decided that they would like to provide the clients that are served a nourishing breakfast on Sunday mornings with a special treat. So, during Friday Club they put their culinary skills to use baking Muesli Cookies. Mrs Johnson sampled one fresh from the oven and was very impressed. The Sunday Breakfast clients were too. The cookies went down a treat and the children’s thoughtfulness was really appreciated.

What little act of kindness might you do today?

Remembrance Day

Yesterday, Class 1 learnt about Remembrance Day before making their own poppy to wear. Just before 11 o’clock they gathered around the flagpole with the rest of the school to lay poppy wreaths and observe 2 minutes silence and remember those who have fought and served their country in the past and those who are still serving now.

Design and Technology

Class 4 created prototypes for their moving toy design using a cam today.

ADHD Awareness Day

On the 31st October all the children took part in activities to raise awareness of ADHD. We imagined what is was like to walk in someone else’s shoes and how empathy is extremely important. The day was full of learning about how ADHD represents itself in others and how it can be different for everyone. We spoke about the idea of a ‘speedy brain’ a simplified version of how the ADHD brain functions in its own neurodiverse way and how this is often shown through the individual being inattentive and hyperactive. We used the analogy of an iceberg to show that these may be the things on the surface that are most noticeable but there is a lot more underneath that people with ADHD struggle with.

As a school we looked at how we are inclusive and how we could help those who were feeling overstimulated and overwhelmed. In the afternoon all the children took part in sensory circuits looking at alerting, organising and calming our bodies ready to learn – we spoke about how this could be a strategy that they might want to use with peers to help them. The children took part beautifully and it was lovely to see what empathetic and kind children there are at Dudley House School.

Bonfire night

The children in Class 1 and 2 have been learning about why some people celebrate bonfire night.

Class 1 children read bonfire night poems before writing their own simple poems and the children in Class 2 learnt all about the Gunpowder Plot. The children worked together to create colourful firework pictures using different techniques.

Weight in Newtons

Class 4 has being using Newton Meters to measure the force gravity exerts. They found that on Earth a mass of 100g exerts a force of 1N.

KS2 Gym

Today during their gymnastics lesson children practised different jumps.

Dictionary training

Class 4 used dictionaries to expand their vocabulary by finding the meaning of new words this morning.

Class 3 Assembly

Thank you to Class 3 for sharing the story of ‘The Great Wall’ in their class assembly today. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you also for telling us about what you have been learning in class – you have been busy.
