Attendance

Dudley House School is committed to maximising the achievement of all pupils. Good attendance and punctuality are crucial if children are to attain their full potential as learners. It is vital that they attend every day, arrive on time and work hard.

We expect and encourage children to be in school for all sessions, as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. Children who miss lessons are more vulnerable to falling behind in their learning and development. Frequent absence can add up to a considerable amount of lost learning and can seriously disadvantage your child in adult life.

As a school, we encourage parents and carers to ensure that their child achieves maximum possible attendance and that any problems that prevent this are identified and acted upon promptly.

We are proud of our children’s good attendance but also remain determined to improve this further with your support.

Illness
Some illnesses will require children to be absent from school for a short period of time. We understand that this can be unavoidable.

Appointments
Routine medical or dental appointments should be arranged for after school or during the school holidays, unless this is an emergency or a hospital appointment that would be difficult to change.

Where this is not possible, the pupil should be out of school for the minimum amount of time necessary.

Holidays
Holidays should never be taken during school terms.

In keeping with government guidance and Local Authority advice, family holidays will not be authorised during term time as children should be in school. It is not in their best interest to take extended holiday as they will miss vital instruction and activities.

Notifying of absence
If a child is absent, the pupil’s parent/carer must notify the school of the reason for the absence on the first day of an unplanned absence by 9:00am or as soon as practically possible by calling the school office on 01476 400184 or emailing or
