Class 3 Science Day

Today Class 3 investigated Newton’s Third Law, the theory that for every action there is a reaction. They took an empty carton and placed small holes in each of the bottom corners then used masking tape to seal these again. Using a funnel, they filled the carton with water and removed one of the pieces of masking tape. The water jetted out one way and the carton spun the other. It wasn’t as spectacular as they had hoped but they enjoyed getting wet in the name of science!

Class 3 proved that water molecules are attracted to each other causing surface tension. They used pipettes to drop water on the surface of a coin. When washing up liquid was added to the water the surface tension was dramatically reduced.

Science Club

Science Club spent their time cleaning tonight and they enjoyed it!!! They had to choose a variety of unusual cleaning products to clean their coins. The selection included; soy sauce, tomato ketchup and hand sanitiser. The ketchup and the soy sauce had the coins sparkling which surprised us all!!

Football Challenge

Class 2 and 3 have been practising for the inter schools virtual football challenge. They were passing the ball between their feet, passing to each other and aiming to knock a ball off the cone!!!

County Map Work

Today in geography Class 3 were learning about counties using social distanced map work.

Poppies

In Art Club today, the children worked on paintings and collages inspired by Remembrance Day this Wednesday. We will be using these to make a display marking the occasion.

50th Anniversary

Today we are marking the 50th birthday of Dudley House school on its current site. All the children took part in planting the bulbs of some golden daffodils that will pop up in the Spring. We also looked at photos of the original site; the house and family that were here. We saw pictures of the school being built and looked closely at the uniforms worn then. What was the same and what was different? The children used to have to wear a school hat as part of their uniform so we made our versions of them. We wore these as we celebrated with a special assembly and some chocolate cake.

History Detectives

This week, as the school marks 50 years in its current loaction, Class 4 has been using a range of primary historical sources to learn about the school’s history. They examined old photographs, plans, the school register, as well as interviewing past pupils. They created booklets describing the school through the decades.
This morning they

were each presented with their own Bible. We hope that they will delve in and discover the treasures and promises it contains and that it will be a source of inspiration and comfort in the years to come.

Music Celebrations

The children had fun in many music activities today celebrating Dudley House School’s 50 years!

Coat Success

Woohoo! This bunch of superstars from Class 1 can now put their coats on all by themselves – we just need to keep practising the zip!
They are very proud and so is Mrs Glover.

Habitats

Class 2 have produced great Brain Builder habitats over the half term holiday.
