Forces

This week in science Class 3 investigated friction (a contact force) and magnetism (a non-contact force).

Winter Woodlands

Now it’s getting cold and frosty outside, the children have painted winter woodland scenes. They’ve made a fantastic job!

Glue

In science club we made glue! It was quite a messy process but the glue that we made from milk, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda was surprisingly strong.

Saltdough UK Maps

In geography lessons Class 3 have learnt about different sorts of maps. They made a topographical map of the UK using salt dough.

Fire of London

The children in class 2 are learning all about the Great Fire of London. They have been running through the narrow London Streets to avoid the fire in Dance and learning songs from the 1600s in music. In history we have been finding evidence which tells us about the Fire of London.

This afternoon they have been bakers and as you can see in the photos, the children worked very hard to make, bake and sell baking goods as they would have in 1666.

Handa’s Surprise

More news from Class 1. Today we shared the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We enjoyed looking at all the tasty fruits in her basket and thinking about the countries where they might grow. Mrs Glover had been to the shop and got us some fruit. We had fun safely slicing and peeling these and then making fruit kebabs with our favourites. They were a yummy addition to our lunch!
In the afternoon, we used more fruit, and some vegetables, to make pictures by dipping them into paints and printing onto paper. Some of them made interesting shapes.

Tin Soldier

Class 2 are having lots of fun in English this week. We listened to the story of the ‘Tin Soldier’ stopping  at the part where he gets carried  into a drain! Then we have acted out the story which was great fun in our soldier costumes and have written a story map of the story so far. Next we are going to write our own ending.

Wolf in the Snow

The children in Class 1 have been looking at this beautiful picture book. We have looked carefully at the characters in the story and talked about where they are, what is happening to them and how they might be feeling. The children looked carefully at the illustrations and how they, rather than words, are used to tell the story. Yesterday we made a map of the different journeys in the story and today the children have done some writing to accompany the pictures from the book. To finish off, they have made a paper plate wolf. They have really engaged with this story and the two main characters in it.

Making and Modifying Vehicles

Science club continued with their designs and made their cars tonight. After some test runs and many modifications they all produced quick moving vehicles.
