Class 4 – DT

Today, our Year 6 students continued their exciting journey into the world of engineering by creating more cam prototypes. Building on their previous understanding of what a cam does and how different shapes affect movement, this session focused on enhancing their learning with a hands-on kit.

By using the kit, students were able to see first-hand how the movement of a cam can cause a follower to move. This practical experience is invaluable as it deepens their understanding of mechanical systems, which they will soon apply when assembling their own toys.

Understanding the intricate relationship between cams and followers gives students a glimpse into the world of engineering, encouraging them to think critically and creatively. This foundational knowledge not only supports their current project but also ignites curiosity about how everyday objects around them function.

Class 4 has being using Newton Meters to measure the force gravity exerts. They found that on Earth a mass of 100g exerts a force of 1N.
