Birch Class (Year 1 & 2)
Welcome to Birch Class. We are a class of year 1 and year 2 children, who are taught by Mrs Harding.
This term, we are learning about a small village, called Chembakolli, in India. We will be looking at maps to find out where India is and how far away it is from us. We will learn about the lives of the people who live there, and compare their lives to ours. We will use our computing skills to create a presentation of our learning. Our science topic will be about materials, both natural and man-made, and their suitability for various tasks. We will also be making mud bricks, similar to those used in Chembakolli, and how suitable they are for building a home. In our art lessons, we will learn about lizards and sculpt one using aluminium foil and Model Magic. In D.T, we will use our skills to dye material before stitching and adding sequins, to create a blanket for an Indian elephant.
PE Days: Monday and Thursday.
Swimming: Friday morning.
Reading: Children read individually at least twice a week as well as guided reading sessions. Please write in your child’s diary so that we can see that they have read. Thank you.
